heyo! just wondering what a good, hardy, LPS would be acceptable to place on this rock shelf i made? currently only have favia as an lps and it would obviously be one that is fine with high lighting! any ideas? my clowns do like to hang out there so i was thinking maybe a hammer or octospawn/frogspawn even...

if you have no ideas, what would you recommend between hammers/octo and frog spawn in terms of hardiness etcetera? (hosting aside because i know clowns will be clowns at the end of the day) thanks!

Unless you have a weak light, LPS do not like that much light in most cases and i really can't think of any that would like that much light. If you want something that will grow there, you will have to go SPS.

i have a 32 watt fluval marine 3.0 , would that be too strong?

No that would not be considered a strong like, but since it's a strip light being a few inches off the water line you are still getting i would guess around 300+ par in that spot, which is too much for most LPS. Fine a nice easy plating monti that you can frag as it starts to shade other corals if you aren't into acros, stylos, and other "stick" style SPS. If you have strong flow right there they would love it and have some really nice colors.

well it

well.. it’s not that i’m not into sps but i’m just too nervous to jump in! i just got my first lps this week but i definitely do have strong flow there from my wavemaker.. i’ve read a lot about not being able to mix softies with lps+sps, would you say it’d be ok to have at least just one sps in the future?

also, this is where my light is! about 6-8 inches above if that makes any difference. i guess my best bet would be checking if the lfs rents out par meters

Id suggest try hydnophora or montipora digitata... Since it's high up I wouldn't put plating montiplra because once it grow it will block the light beneath... Both hydnophora and digitata are quite forgiving.. Hydnophora always has nice sbright color only downside is it has quite strong sting so don't let it touch other but that's quite easy because it doesn't have longgggg tenticle like lps
Sorry for bad English it's not my first language

Great advice from the others! Definitely agree that placing any LPS there may be too much light.. and when they grow out there doesn't look like much space for them (if they have a skeleton that's already a few inches).. Also recommend some montis (there are so many colors and varieties :p )!
