Hi all, I have my Occ Clownfish pair in my HT at the moment as they both got an eye infection (her right, him left) which on the female spread to her side and dorsal fin. They’ve been in the HT for 5 days now treated with Kanaplex and Metroplex (and Voogle) and appear to be doing well. The female, who was the worst affected seems completely healed and the male looks ok - his eye is still cloudy but will hopefully improve soon. Both are eating and swimming well. I plan to keep them in the HT for another week and then as long as they seem ok introduce them back to the DT. I’ll keep dosing Voogle and Metroplex but will follow the manufacturer instructions and cease Kanaplex now as I put the 3rd dose in the tank today.
My question is about the 3 coral skeletons I put in the HT to help with the cycle. These were previously kept in the sump. I put them along with small Poly Filter squares (also from the DT sump) into the HT to help kick the cycle off, removed the Poly Filter when I started adding antibiotics and Voogle, but left the skeletons in place. My QT/HT has ceramic noodles as part of it’s filtration system permanently.
Once I transfer the fish back to the DT can I put the skeletons back in the sump?
Should I sterilise them first? How - simple soak in boiled water or something more substantial?
Or should I ditch them?
I’d like to reuse them to keep on hand to cycle the QT/HT as needed in future if that’s safe.
