Seeking opinions on advice i received. LR is the best filtration. The more LR you have the more fish you can sustain. True or no? I have a 36 BF up for almost 9 months. Started with 22 lbs and recently added about 11 more. Thinking of another 10 or so depending on opinions. I have not started any coral yet. 20210118_182542.jpg

Seems a good ratio. Still will hit a wall as to how many fish you should have due to tank size and territory.

more rocks mean more house for bacteria. so it will help to some extent(with regular water changes). i think a deep sand bed is more effective as it can house anaerobic bacteria but it will need maintenance as well.. rocks usually don't help much with phosphate reduction which is important if you want to have corals. if you are thinking of adding more fish( with few corals) read about sulphur reactors. they can help with reducing nitrates. Nopox can reduce both nitrates and phosphates but need a skimmer to work best.

Thanks. In your opinion, whats my max fish count? I have 2 clowns, 2 fire tail gobys, 2 engineer gobys, 4 peppermint shrimp and one fire shrimp. Also a pencil urchin which people say won't eat coral but mine did. Saw it with my own eyes.

It's not that straight forward i am afraid. but better nutrient export methods will allow you to keep more fish. adding more rock will take away swimming room & will cause fights. fish like cardinals can survive (not thrive) on low food supply whereas anthias/chromis need to be fed multiple times per day. more feedings mean more nutrients in the water.
more fish means more maintenance. you can run a canister filter with Carbon, purigen and phosban to remove nitrates and phosphates. but you will need to change the media more often with every additional fish in your tank.
you can add a small sump with an over size skimmer and use diy nopox. it has its own negatives so you need to do your research. just don't bite more than you can chew. ;)
