Hey guys,

I set up a QT tank 2 days ago and put 10LB of LR in from my LFS. Can you guys tell me what kind of shrimp this is? I believe it is some type of mantis. If it is, will my QT tank LPS corals be fine in there? It is about 1.5inches

Yes that is a mantis shrimp. He really should be in a tank with sand and/or rock to build his burrow. But I do believe the corals would be fine.

What should I throw in there to feed it? I really dont care for it but I dont want it to die.

Live feeder fish, crabs and frozen meaty foods such as fish, scallop and shrimp.

Please try and find hom a new home where he will be more comfortable. Or put some sand and rubble in there for him.

I am not going to put sand in it. This is a QT tank, and personally I have read a lot about sand causing more problems than not.

Perhaps the best thing I can do is catch him and bring him back to my LFS... I haven't seen him since this morning he has some burrow on the live rock I have not been able to find. Whats the best way to catch it?

You don't have anything in there, should be ralitively easy to catch.

Yea not reef safe. they will eat anything they can catch...

Maybe I will keep him. Any way to do it without sand? Perhaps just PVC will suffice?
