I have a long tentacle plate coral in my 28 gallon cube. When opened it is about as large as my spread out hand and is taking up too much space. Should I consider cutting it up (read on here to cut into 9 pieces) and hope for the best or should I just try to sell it and get something smaller?

It wasn't very expensive so if the fragging process kills some of them, no big deal, but I wouldn't mind having a few small ones to share with friends.

Lastly, is it possible to put a plate coral on bare bottom as my frag tank has no sand. I could always put a dish with sand in there if necessary but I would prefer not to take up that much space.

Any suggestion would be helpful.
