Hey everyone,

I think I already know the answer to this question but wanted to ask the community with far more knowledge than myself. I picked up a Long tentacle anemone from my LFS earlier this week. It spent the first day roaming without planting its foot. Next morning I found it free floating towards the bottom of the tank. It eventually planted down but under a rock in the shade. It has been there for 3 days now. I have been waiting for it to move to a new home where it will receive proper lighting.

Should I encourage it to move in any way or just leave it alone to work it out on its own?

Anemones take time to get acclimated to a tank. Ours took maybe a week or two to finally reach the top part of the rock, where it has stayed.

Not sure why no one has mentioned that they are sand dwelling anemones, they don’t move up or attach to the aquascape unless it’s under that sand.
Provide it with medium/low flow and a spot for it to settle in the sand

I can’t tell for sure what type of anemone that even is but if it is a lta it should be in the sand attached to the bottom glass. By the looks of the rock in your tank an anemone of any sort is most likely going to struggle. They really do need a mature tank 6-12 months typically sometimes longer.

Thank you. Should I be encouraging to move down to the sand bed once an adequate space has been setup?

M. doreensis, or common name LTA, need a fairly deep sand bed to do well. I can't see the anemone so I cannot tell if this is the species of anemone we are talking about or not. From just a few tentacle tips, it does not look like a LTA. Better picture is needed.
