Lugols vs Coral RX vs Bayer

Hello !

There is a ton of conflicting information about which is best and recommended .

Based on your experiences -
Do you use one product for all or have you found specific products are better for specific corals (lps,sps,mushrooms) etc

Also - tips on “dipping” snails etc .
I know you can’t dip them as you would a coral but how do you prevent the introduction of hitchhikers that may be on their shell

I have Coral Rx and Lugols.

Hi I just use coral rx but u can’t dip snails you will kill them . It’s unlikely to have a hitchhiker on a snail but not in coral or rocks. Hope this helps and have a good day

Sorry maybe hitchhiker was the wrong word .

I’ve purchased snails that have GHA on their shells , or a tuxedo urchin with some types of algae on its body , etc

Just wondering if people have a plan of attack for those situations

I would scrape it off it’s shell or remove manually. U can also quarantine with no light for a few days until algae goes away . Hope this helps. What other fish are in the tank ?

Thx it’s a 200 in wall in the living room. It’s my obsession lol . And I made it on a pretty low budget believe it or not. The tank , not what’s inside lol

Your zoa garden and placement of corals is really well thought out .

Hi no I just joined last month but I have build pics if u want to see . I moved last year and built the tank whole house was under construction.

Definitely think about starting a build thread . It’s always nice to see people having success especially with “budget” builds

I use CoralRx / By Lugols, do you mean their Iodine? Many use the Iodine to help cure some coral injuries, etc...especially after fragging them.

As for your snails...dips will kill them. I use a toothbrush to scrape their shells and rinse in saltwater...also pick off any vermatid snails on their shells as well. But, it is best to quarantine your snails in a separate tank for at least 30 days and possibly 76 days to definitely ensure no ich is encysted on their shells. I usually try to go the full 76 days on my snails, but rarely get past 30 days!

Ok cool I will do that I have a lot of pics. I did the work myself mostly except the marble wall tile work . I run a big refugium

I worry about the amount of algae available for the snails as my QT tank is obviously very clean

Easy fix for this...I have to do it as well. Rubberband some dry seaweed to a small rock and place in the tank with the snails. They will cover it and have a feast. Sometimes, I have to move a snail over to the rock so he can see there is food there for him. I've had good luck with this and maintaining snails for 76 days....but most I move out after 30 days.

Does this work for conch as well ? I know some snails like to bury themselves - don’t want to over stress it in a bare bottom tank

I think most people end up with the frag tank at some point .

I would like to have all my tanks plumbed together and skip having a sump rather just have one tank devoted to sponges/feather dusters/ bristle worms etc
