Yes it can be used,
but it is less strong than PVP iodine/Betaisodonna solution
Lugol’s iodine 0.1% solution
(2 gram potassium iodine + 1 gram iodine + 1 litre Aqua-Dest)
typical dosing; 2 drops per 100 litre water per day
compared to PVP iodine/Betaisodonna solution
typical dosing; 1 drop per 200-250 litre water per day

Many people certainly use it, but I'm not a big fan of it since some of the iodine is in a form (I2) that is reactive and unnatural in a reef.
I also don't think supplemental iodine is useful, but experimenting with your own tank is likely the most convincing way to decide.
