saw the blowholes in action at reefapalooza, really liked them. excited to use it in my setup... still need to find a skimmer and a controller. cant decide between apex jr or reefkeeper lite (with net)

so some progress was made today... i ordered my tank from john at advance acrylics. 48x24x10 rimless with a black acrylic bottom (going bare bottom) center overflow (on the 48" side)

pretty excited about it.

should look similar to this:

What is in the tub? Is it all rubble rock?

its a lot of small pieces and rubble LFS sold it 50 pounds for $40.. i have some ideas involving marco rocks cement/maybe epoxy... or worse case senario it goes into the fuge to seed some dry stuff.

I also ordered my Reefkeeper Lite (net) today... should be good

Oh and next purchase is skimmer...

here's my question... when considering the capacity of the skimmer, should i include the sump?

example:

my tank should be around 55 gallons, and sump will be around 50 gallons, so do i need a skimmer rated for atleast 100 gallons?

also opinions:

im considering reef octopus 6 inch skimmer

or reef octopus 4 inch recirculating skimmer

both are right around $200, so price isnt really a factor. im just not sure which would work better.

I thought Advanced Acrylics went out of business. I noticed John pulled all his stuff off ebay not to long ago. I know a lot of people have had issues on receiving their tanks and sumps after they have been paid for (including myself). It took a few months longer then expected, and I was mislead a few times about shipping dates. He does incredible work tho, so its worth the headaches sometimes.

i've had a tank built by him before... great work.... we're picking the tank up in california, so if its not ready he'll have to make something quick haha

Ahh, good call. I ordered a sump previously & it took forever. His work was really nice once it received it. I think Greg at Blue Reef Aquatics here in Vegas has that tank in stock and sitting in the display area. I'm sure he would let it go dirt cheap since it has been sitting around for a bit.

i was there on saturday, but didnt see anything like that. he had a frag style tank, but it was like $1400... this tank will be $300... with a black bottom.

Picked up my tank from John at advance acrylics today. (right on schedule!)
