Lunar Lights (Radion xr30 gen 3)

I know there is a lot of information on here already about night lights, BUT not exactly what i'm looking for.

So i have a set of radions. I kind of want to add in the lunar cycle for selfish reasons, mainly to see what goes on after hours. The lunar cycle is checked inside ecolive but it doesn't do anything, doesn't matter what phase the moon is in.

I found this video from eco tech on setting moonlight. is this how i'm supposed to do it? If so what's the point of having the lunar phase option if it doesn't do anything? I'm not opposed to doing it the way the video shows, but shouldn't flipping that switch just enable lights to turn on? He also has it set to like 9% brightness which i feel would be WAY to much? i just want enough to look around i don't care about seeing coral colors that much. Right now sometimes i'll throw the reds on to see where fish are sleeping or to see sweepers from corals that i have.

I have never owned a set of radions but it sounds like you can adjust the 9% down lower if you wanted.

lunar lights doesn't work in some of the preset schedules like the shallow reef settings. You have to have lighting set points that occur during the evening to morning hours and then set those points at the moonlight 9% setting if that is what you want for brightness.

So basically just create my own points and set it at the brightness i want . More or less just extending the on period and beginning the start period sooner. Should those lights be more in the red spectrum or just a very low intensity in the maxed out blue?

You can choose what led channel you want to use as the "lunar light", but usually people just use the white at like 5% or so. Never tried using the red led for lunar light. Not sure if there are any drawbacks to doing that.

Hey there. I realize that I am reviving an old thread here. But just wanted to chime in on color of the lunar lights. The lunar colors might matter more than we think they do. I would stick to a slightly bluish white to a full blue. The latest research is showing that corals and other inverts absolutely respond to moon lighting (lunar phases) and the exact timing of sunrise and sunset in relation to those to sync their spawning times. It is sort of their biological clock. Most of the inverts in your tank can't even see red. I wish that our lights would run a solar cycle along with the lunar cycle -running slightly longer days and nights by the season- as it seems that that is what is driving coral spawning. And we are now seeing facilities spawn corals and inverts by simply mimicking those two variables accurately (timing of the changing of daylight and the lunar phase).
