I just noticed this when I was looking through some pics that I had taken. The first pic is of a few Lunars I picked up in June. Nice enough right? The second pic is of the same frag on Oct 10. Not much growth, but man, look at the color morphing!!!

Nice Jared. What bulb combination are you running?

Good coloring up!

your lunars are infact a faded version of another highly desirable zoa.................. a lot of zoas are often given names in their faded state and our lighting often keeps them in that faded state, the coralpedia site is littered with same morph zoas with diff names aka faded states.

as yours become a full orange zoa the black pattern will become evident.......... hey presto youll be calling it by its coloured name.... your tube lighting is the magic trick ;o)

Ok I'll bite... what do you think they are?

Lunar Eclipse, Organisms, and EZs are all similar large orange palys, as are several unnamed strains that showed up in the LFS loop about a year ago; there is/was some speculation that the only difference in these palys may be the lighting. Some people have sited the dark background with speckling as being the difference between lunars and the others, but research show that speckling is caused by high lighting, while the dark background would appear to be caused by lower lighting, so I'm not sure that I agree with that. IME, Lunars are distinct from the Organism/EZ/Orange palys. While I am certainly no expert, I do have Lunars, Organisms, and one of the unnamed strains in my tank, and the Lunars have maintained their distinct appearance under my 250w MH lighting - the Organisms and unnamed strain are indistinguishable. Regardless, they are a very nice paly.

tube lights are great for zoas but they dont penetrate depth so good and unlike halides they never harm zoas........... it really doesnt take long for all zoas to colour up when they not being restricted by harmful lighting (halides)

raise that frag to 10" below water surface for a month or higher if they already near that sort of depth..

they should start to brighten and look like this but we not finished colouring up yet....... the mouth spot tho looks greeny it will be black at at later stage........

Correct me if I am wrong but those above me are not Lunars.

Anyway I have owned two sperate frags of the Lunar morph in the past that had both quickly melted away under moderate light.
I bought a frag of Lunars at a LFS in August I believe. I bought 2 polyps, I now have I think 11 maybe 12! Super happy with the growth and the color is awesome.

those are from me right?

it's still morphing. It should be bright orange with a yellow mouth.
