Lux range for SPS reef tank

"Galactica" is the name of the app?

What lamp gave a 200,000+ lux reading?

It's a modified Chinese black box. Added meanwell driver and cree diodes so it puts out a good amount of light vey efficiently. And yes that's the name of the app. The thing is, that pic reading is directly in the middle of my led array all around where the diodes are stacked together. It drops of very quickly around the edges of the panel so it needs to be hung sort of high. That is also with the fixture turned all the way up. I usually have it turned down to about 45k lux at the brightest point.

Seems to be a winner!

I got a very close match with my LX-1010B and iPhone 5s in a quick check.
Seriously???? I had to run errands and havent tried it. That would be sOOOOOOO helpful. In like 400 threads...right?

I need to know where that fixture came from please..
Youd have to pullnthe lenses to get better spread.. another thought would be to use duffusion in front of the led. Like a 14in piece of etched glass. Pretty light...reefers don't diffuse because they lose to much lux. If you got the power it makes a big soft source over the tank. Looks more like sky than a halide. If it wasnt so hot and dim the light to much i would diffuse the halide. Thats one of the most beautiful light there is. It looks like your outside..

I got it off eBay and then modified it. I think it was around $60. I like metal halides, they're just too big for my tank and I don't feel like having a hood hanging.

I've been waiting for Cree or bridgelux to make 10-20k arrays so I can build a cob light for my tank. Two run softly would be more than enough to cover my whole tank.

I got 2 form the local boards for twenty bucks. Itnwas a no brainer to try out. One gives amazing light and the fixture Looks good. the other just ok.and is ugly. A 150w is at 16k lux at 24in. Its not an efficent emitter. i have an led in a , floating hood. With that im at 20k lux.
its fun. And science :)

A big thanks to you guys for this thread. I thought I would add my experience for others to reference.

I ordered the $15.95 meter from amazon.

I'm running 2 SB Reef Lights basic boxes (attached to my Apex for dimming) over my sps dominate 75g. I have the lights on the highest mount setting which keeps them about 12" off the water.

With my "blue" channel at 60% and my "white" channel at 40% I'm getting about 58,000 lux at the water surface, in the center of the fixture.

Any thing I'm missing here that I should change? I'm having pretty good growth from my acropora already but I'm hoping this helps dial it in some more.

it the corals are happy really about it. If you want to play or experiment. increasing 2500 lux is around 50 par. there are coral tanks with much higher intensities and par.

im oddly still looking for par tests on the SB's as I have one.

Be aware of how quickly (or not) that intensity falls off at the edges of its coverage range. But in general that should be perfect for many, many corals.

Now you can focus on the rest of the details! :) :) :)
