Lymphocystis on Rhomboids mouth

It looks like my rhomboid has developed lymphocystis on my rhomboids mouth. His mouth looks mangled. What is the treatment for this? Is it treatable? He was eating really well and no sign of it on Friday. He's in my office tank, and I stopped in today to feed him and noticed it.

Feeding a varied diet and maintaining pristine water quality is really all you can do I believe.

Ok thanks. He ate a couple pieces of mysis when I fed but he's much more reclusive than normal. I will keep doing small water changes every couple of days to keep up with water quality.

Lympho can become a problem if it grows over the mouth (prevents eating) or over the gills (prevents breathing). I'd put a cleaner shrimp in there; they will sometimes eat the white nodules if the fish allows it.

Thanks for the advice. I have a coral banded shrimp in there so I'll have to remove him and put a cleaner in. He did still eat today so that's good. I'd be more concerned if he wasn't eating.

I have 3 cleaner with my fire and a coral banded shrimp no problem in a 180.

Looks more like wound, maybe something bit it's face when feeding.
Wounds can either heal on their own or get infected.
You could treat him in a qt with furan 2 and kanaplex. But moving him might be more stressful.
If you start to see red in the wound I'd risk treating him.

I agree with zoacollector on this. That looks like a wound to me. I've seen this in wrasses at the store that try to bury where the sand is too shallow and tear up their mouth. If he's eating well, then the hope is that he will heal on his own. No matter which it is, good water quality and vitamins in the food to help him out. Look out for infection though and be ready with antibiotics and a QT

Thanks for the advice. Theres a 1.5" sand bed so I can't imagine it's too shallow but maybe he tried to bury next to a rock and hit his mouth against it.

He is eating. He's in an observation tank but can be moved to my QT for treatment of necessary.

Fairies don't bury themselves to sleep, they secrete a cocoon at night. He most likely got either bit on the face while fighting for food or he banged his face darting into a rock.

True and I re-read what I said and it did sound like I meant he was trying to bury. Fairies wont bury, but they will dive/dart into the rocks at the bottom of the tank to hide and sometimes kiss the rock. Good catch my friend!

If it is an injury will continued feeding sand good water quality be sufficient for a full recovery?

Would Furan 2 be a good option for treating as an anti-bacterial? Also he is in an observation tank with sand and live rock. Would it be bad to treat in there? Would I be better off doing dips?

If it is an injury, he will most likely recover from it unless it gets infected.

Furan-2 is a good broad spectrum antibiotic, useful for halting infections and to prevent them from spreading. You could use it as a precaution. But I wouldn't put the sand/LR back in your DT afterwards.

Yes they do this and it's annoying lol, giving them pvc in a qt to hide helps them not do this.

Ok so it looks much worse today. So I'm going to transfer the rhomboid to my QT tank and treat with Furan 2. My QT still has some residual CP in there. So I'm going to do a big water change and then run carbon to soak up the excess CP.

Are there any issues to mixing CP and Furan 2? I read that they can be mixed. There may still be some residual CP in my QT and don't want to wait to do water changes and run carbon to soak up the excess prior to treating the rhomboid. I would need to add additional oxygenation of course
