Hi all! Longnose Hawkfish I've had for about 6 months. He initially seemed fine, but every now and then he would grow this on his fin.

It's gotten smaller a few times but the last couple of weeks it's gotten really big. I got a cleaner shrimp hoping that maybe he would help - and he does clean the hawkfish! But it hasn't made much of a difference haha.

Until today I didn't notice any behavioral differences (although I have increased the level of flow in the tank just yesterday) but he seems to be more frantic in his swimming so I'm just reaching out to see what I should do other than keep the water parameters good and soak food in selcon? Thanks in advance!

Are you referring to the red cottony growth at the base of the pectoral fin?
Doesn’t really look like lympho to me, I’m not sure what it is though. Likely bacterial.
Yes, that is what I was referring to. It is only affecting that one fin and has not spread to any other fish in the tank - He is living with two clowns a filefish and a cleaner shrimp.

I'll look into bacterial things it could be - thanks for the direction!

Is that its gills that are so inflamed?
I don't think it's the gills - it might have affected it a bit. But it is mostly on the fin. I've tried to attach a video of it to this but I haven't had much luck with videos on the forum in the past!

Edit: Here is a youtube link because I cant embed the video.

I’m not sure what that is. I’ve seen Lymphocytis that color, just not that large!

If you google lymphocystis - you can see similar pictures - I have never seen something like that in person - it seems more like a tumor of some kind. I'm stumped

This is as big as it has been! I could barely notice it at all a while ago.

And honestly my wife broke her leg a month ago so I have been a little slow at tank upkeep since. I'll pick up my game - I have put on my UV sterilizer and added selcon to the food. Going to do some more frequent water changes and see if it helps at all - Will update this thread if the condition improves or worsens as time goes on!

Thanks for the insight team! Ya'll are the best!

Looks like bacterial growth and II would give it a ruby rally pro bath for 90 minutes with aeration which is mild then treat with rally or maracyn 2

Sounds like a pragmatic solution if bacterial! I'll order some now and see what happens in the meantime.

I have a FOWLR so I assume the rally is okay in DT after I give a bath? (There are some zoanthids in my sump that are having a last hurrah after I opted for softer DT lighting. but they just happen to be there lol). Won't hurt the other fish??

Although Rally is. My preference is to treat in a separate setting
Not seeing any mention of water quality or Parameters in better terms. What os your Ammonia-ph-nitrate-salinity-Temp
And what test lits are you using ?

Sorry! I know I'm not following the formula. o_O

Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 10
Salinity 1.023
PH - 8.0
Temp - 80f

This is all with API kits. (Budget build!)

29 Gallon Display with 10 gallon sump
Established about 6 months ago with 2 clowns, 1 filefish, 1 longnose hawkfish, 1 cleaner shrimp and a few hermit crabs. No problems since it was established but the tank was cleaned and restarted after a brook outbreak prior to the 6 months where I lost everything.

I have a 10 gallon which I can seed with LR from the sump to treat / quarrantine when needed.

Bring temp down slightly to 78 (range 77-79)
Salinity- bump to 1.024-1.025
PH ok (range (8.1-8.3)

With having little confidence in API known for false readings. PLEASE take a water sample to a trusted LFS that does NOT use API kits and have them test to see what readings they come up with and to compare with yours. This as seen on your fish is suspect to poor water quality and best to see where things are at to determine possible cause

Update: I gave him a 90 min rally bath which was tolerated well. (Catching him was... Hard).
Have been doing twice a week 25% water changes to get the nitrates down a bit. Increased my salinity slowly with the water changes and have been feeding selcon soaked brine shrimp twice daily.
I still haven't had time to get a water sample to the fish store.

You can see the mass has reduced significantly but the fin seems to have been damaged. He's not swimming as well as he was before and I find him in strange spots (for him). Will continue treatment and give another bath in a few more weeks if no further improvement observed.

Please ignore wife with broken leg in background and sound.
