Hi all. I got my 4 lyretails in August. 1 came with the head spike, has been dominant and nobody else has challenged. It’s clearly the male but still just as orange as the others. How long does the transition take to red?

depends on age of the fish and growth rate

Same thing happened with my lyretails. Started with 5 females. One promptly changed and turned deep red within a few days. Eventually he died and the next female became dominant got the spike but never changed color. Maybe a year later he died and the next female turned male and went deep red. No idea why the one never changed. It also seems the stress of being male will kill you before your females. Hmmmm

Ive had 6 for almost 3 months. The lagest one grew the spike pretty fast and has a little bit of black on his front fins but he is just as orange as the females.
