Does it matter where lyretail Anthias are collected? They are listed as same species. Reason I’m asking is if I buy multiple females from one place and then buy males from another place will they be compatible? Will the females be a harem for males collected from different parts of the world?

I don't think it matters. But only one male per tank otherwise one will end up dead in short order. The last harem I had made it for 2 years before I was left with just one. When the females transition they will battle and end up killing each other one at a time. I don't think there's any way around that unless you just keep one to start with.

So I’m planning for a 675 gallon and want to have Anthias. Previous experience has been the usual where they pick off the weaker one until I’m left with one or two. How many Lyretails can go in this tank? Should I only buy all females and then let them figure out who will be the male or buy a male for the harem?

The only difference between the different areas where these guys are collected is the colour variation. The males from Fiji are more purple than the males from other regions. And the females from (I think) the Maldives are brighter orange than other females.
