Has anyone ever seen a lyretail look like this? It's eyes are huge, and it's not doing much.

He has popeye, I am not a fish expert but I will say that I have seen this condition go away on its own. I am sure the fish experts will chime in here....

My Male got something that made his 1 eye swell like that. I had him for a few years, then 1 day it ballooned up. It was like that for months. I had to pull my fish to treat for crypto, used cupramine, & his eye went back to normal. Now mine was eating & acting normal, just had the swollen eye.

It looks like it's in a QT tank, so try treating it.

I'll be starting copper in 2 days, I'm just trying to get him eating first. He's a new arrival. Food is metro/focus soaked currently.

Except for the 2 females I got online in December (are frozen foods day 1), the rest had to be started on live brine, then switched to frozen mysis usually within a week. Good luck.

I would wait on copper and treat with Epsom salt to get the swelling down. I would also notify who you got it from just to be safe

Are there any posts about using that to treat? And what kinda you can use? There are two other lyretail in there with her.

Epsom salt is magnesium sulphate, so it'll raise your Mag levels a bit, but that's about it.

If that doesn't do the trick (popeye in both eyes is often bacterial in nature) Erythromycin is an antibiotic that seems to work well.

I dosed it around noon yesterday, and noticed no difference yet. Where can you get Erythromycin? Is it a water column med, or food med? Because the fish is not eating. It may be too late.

This the stuff? Would be awesome if I can get it locally! What about Furan-2? I have this on hand already, and it treats eye cloudiness.

Same directions as on the box?

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

For each 10 gallons of water, empty one packet directly into aquarium. Repeat dose after 24 hours. Wait another 24 hours then change 25% of the aquarium water. Repeat this treatment for a second time, for a total of 4 doses. Then make a final 25% water change and add fresh activated carbon or replace filter cartridge.

Erythromycin is a water-column med. You can try the Furan, as well - it's unlikely to do much harm, and you actually _have_ the stuff. Follow the manufacturer's instruction.
