Something got mine a couple of months ago. I came home from a 3 week trip and it was gone. The wife had no idea. I guess my clean up crew was doing a good job

I was soooooooooo upset!!! I saw it happening but the "action" was under rocks and I couldn't get the starfish while he had the fish in his grasp. After the killer got the fish to his mouth I knew my beautiful Manderain was history. Yes, I did drop a tear or two but that's life. The beat goes on.

Just re-read above comments. No the fish wasn't dead or sick. Just moments before the starfish grabbed him the Mardarin was flitting from rock to rock snagging his bedtime snack. I saw the attack.

Oh, that's really sad. I am sorry about your loss, Mary Ruth.

Do you remember my complaining about my big sixline wrasse causing the demise of my Mandarin goby pairs? Guess what. The big boy jumped out. My youger daughter found it with her bare foot. She screamed when it happened cause the darn fish (dead for a few hours by then) cut her foot. She was bleeding (a little bit but sounded like a lot if you listened to her) to my amazement. My LFS told me that a sixline wrasse has very sharp fins and sometimes poke holes into a bag h:

In any event, now that he is gone, I am going to get another mandarin . The super male sixline was paired up with this tiny female sixline. I hope she won't bother a newcomer.

Some serpents are ambush predators....they drape themselves on rockwork waiting for an unknowing or sleeping fish.....then they strike and coil (like serpents no pun intended) I am sorry for your mandarin loss I rehomed my tangs yesterday and I cried.

Star fish suck!!!!! I have one and if I get the chance he is gone.I forgot he wasin the 300gal temp tank and saw him in the main tank after I set it up.I have never liked them,he must have hidden in a rock.I have a breeding pair of mandarins in my tank and will gladlly take the star out and dry him out to put in a net above the tank as a warning for any who shall try to enter agin.LOL.I still have a breeding pair for sale.
