Long time lurker from Sweden, think its time to present my tank.

Some specs:

Display: 125x55x50 cm normal glass (next will definatly be a low iron optiwhite)
Sump: 70x35x35, nothing fancy. DIY with 3 sections, refuge, skimmer and return
Skimmer: Deltec sc1456
Return: Jebao DCT-6000
Streamers: 2x MP40 QD
Light: 2x xr30w pro running the AB program at 100%

The tank is quite stocked:

2x Amphiprion ocellaris
1x Nemateleotris magnifica
1x Meiacanthus grammistes
1x Zebrasoma flavescens
1x Paracanthurus hepatus

4x Pseudanthias squamipinnis
1x Salarias ramosus
1x Oxycirrhites typus
1x Pseudocheilinus hexataenia

I have a wide mixture of acros in the tank. Mostly easier and cheaper onces since this tank was my big leap from just having a tank to actually go on about having a nice display and growing corals thats abit above the entry level of this hobby.

Some of the current corals will get changed and replaced with more rare species of acros.

Im running the aquaforest biotic program apart from the balling which is triton base elements.

Feel free to ask if you wonder about anything!

Okay so here goes! Tank has been up since mid december 2015, Had alot of ups and downs during this short period of time. About half the livestock is moved from my first tank and is well cycled. The tanks is all DIY apart from equipment and the display. I drilled it, and all tho.

All pictures are taken with a samsung galaxy s6 so the quality isnt the best! Thanks for tuning in :)

Smooth sailing still. My nutrients are undetectable and have been for awhile. Will upp feeding to try to get some better coloration.

The joy of having a reef tank is discovering small "flaws" with your setup, e.g. a value is slighly off, the spectrum might be abit off and so on and improving this and seeing results of your efforts. I've recently installed fans to ventilate the canopy and stand putting my temperature at a stable 77F from a fluctuating 80-85F.

Ever since the start of this tank i've had really low nutrition for some reason. I've tried really hard to slowly raise these without any success. I've seen the progress of my corals going from colorful to abit pale and doll, this is the reason i wanto raise these parameters.

Today i have 14 fish in my tank, i find it to be quite heavily stocked, I might be wrong?

2x Amphiprion ocellaris
1x Nemateleotris magnifica
1x Meiacanthus grammistes
1x Zebrasoma flavescens
1x Paracanthurus hepatus

4x Pseudanthias squamipinnis
1x Salarias ramosus
1x Oxycirrhites typus
1x Pseudocheilinus hexataenia
1x Valenciennea puellaris

My current filtration is a fuge thats about 6% of the total setup, a Deltec sc1451 skimmer and some LR rubble along with siporax in the sump.

Im currently dosing and feeding Aquaforest A, B, E, V along with their coral food 3 drops + 3 spoons daily

The fish is feed 4 times daily with ocean nutrition formula one and two pellets by a feeder. Everyday after work i give them a frozen cube of mysis or a sheet of nori.

So now i need your help. How would your raise Both No3 and Po4? Feed even more? Dose KNO3? Hit me with some ideas!

Your tank and pictures are fantastic, I would love to have a tank that looks that good and just have to fine tune it to make it even greater. You are definitely doing it right, congrats.

Good pictures @m0jjen - according to nitrate - you know my answer :)

Sincerely Lasse
Im afraid im not quite following :)

Thank you! This is by far the best condition any tank ive had ever has been in. Nitpicky as i am there are still stuff i wanto improve and sone corals i feel the need to get (mostly zoas and lower level corals).

Regarding the tanks current state its about getting the most of what i have. Getting better coloration to my corals at this point is one of the few improvements and goals i have with the tank ;)

Something new, something old and something borrowed.

Some new zoas, watermelon and rasta (atleast thats what they're called in Sweden) and some unknowns refered to as "Dragon soul" which hasnt opened up yet. Making a nice mixrock with these. Overview of that rock will come when all the zoas are open up, they are quite cranky atm!

A new acro colony aswell. No idea of its scientific name so feel free to chip in on this.

AND A CRAB!

Bought myself a early 30-year present. A Canon 1300D with a tripod. Lets just say it takes better pictures then my Samsung galaxy S6 ;)

So i've been playing around with the Canon 1300D, using the stock lens (18-55mm) i've managed to get somewhat decent picutres. Even if these are okey i feel a need for some better lenses to get macro and a wide for better full tank shots.

Silver caulastrea I obtained from a friend, somewhat uniqe if you ask me even if its colorless :)

My mixed zoa stone, hopefully it will be covered in these 3 different zoas soon enough :)

Apart from playing with the camera and the tank looking great at the moment i noticed my KH dosing hose got disconnected for atleast 2 days. The KH went from 7,7 dKH to 5,7 dKH. When i discovered the lose hose my heart skipped more than one beat, afew more hours and the tank would be a goner for sure.

Thankfully the KH is back to 7 dKH now and everything is looking great! :)

Just recived my triton test report, not all good. Not that bad either. Some values are abit off but should get on track after 2 solid water changes.

The full report:

I've also had "trouble" getting my stylopora to go pink, after months of trying and getting all confused regarding this particular coral I decided to research it abit. The conclusion is pretty hilarious. Its not a pink stylo... Its a rainbow stylo haha :)

oBtzVjA.jpg

Unfortunately i was unable to capture its colors fully. The polyps are a purple blueish and the flesh goes in a greenish yellow with pink tips. Guess I should be happy about this "find" :)

Thanks! Gonna try to make a bigger update in the coming days :)

Time to update abit regarding the tank!

Cyano

Got two small patches of cyano on the sandbed in lowflow areas. According to my triton test i had high molybdenum levels which also can lead to cyano, also according to triton. With todays WC i sucked out the cyano and vaccumed the sand in the particular area. The result is that I found a dead snail under one of the patches and ALOT of detritus. This lead me to think that i got detritus build-ups in those cyano attacked areas and the cyano is feeding on the builds ups.

So to battle this i re-arranged my two mp40's to get alot more flow through out of the whole tank instead of having one at each end blasting eachothers. I also decided to take a look at my scheduling for the pumps which lead to me redoing it from scratch into this:

7YvGT6u.jpg

Im gonna test this out for abit and see how it works out :)

Nutrients

On my post from July 3 I mentioned having low nutrients. I started dosing KNO3, I decided to do so after detecting that i had ~0.018 PO4 in when testing in the morning (0 if tested just after lights out). This has been successfull in my opinion. The corals have been coloring up abit and everything in that regard is on track. The fuge has also started to grow since the dosing.

I dont know if the dosing is apart of the cyano, time will tell if I decide to stop dosing.

Triton-Lab results

So I got my results. (http://docdro.id/hWEtXD4). In short it told me:

  • Aluminum and Cupper was detected
  • Magnesium was abit high
  • Bromide was elevated
  • Sulphur was Low
  • Lithium was very low
  • Molydenum was very high
  • Zink, Iodine and Barium high
Corse of action: Im gonna start with the fact that Strontium and Lithium was of balance. I've ordered the triton additives. Im also gonna run a dose of triton detox to get rid of cupper and aluminum.

The other values i hope to get back on track with two 40% WC

Im sorry to say that i havent had time to play around with the camera. I've ordered a tripod adapter for my phone so i can record the tank properly (It actually get better recordings than my Canon d1300 lol). Ill try to get some picutres up and the movie asoon as the tripod adapter arrives!

Thanks for now :)

Today i got my litium and strontium additives. Took a FTS to document if they dosing do any good to the coral health. Been a day since the flow change and i must say that the corals love it. My millepora that used to have medium to poor PE now goes bananas and is a fuzzy ball of coral wonder!
