Hey I'm really interested in learning more about chaeto reactor ,jebao dosing pump and CO2 scrubber. Have you seen any success using the chaeto reactor? Is it worth going that route or just getting refugium? Jobao dosing pump was it a easy install hard to program? What was your ph at that you decided to add a CO2 scrubber? My ph is at 7.8 to 7.3 I know 8 is the goal but what is low do you have to add a CO2 scrubber at what point ?

Thanks for stopping by! The Jebao dosing pump compared to others on the market IMO is a steal. I used You Tube videos for programming help but it is in fact fairly strait forward/simple to program once you get a general understanding.

Check out this video on YouTube:

The Chaeto reactor has been a bit of a trick for me. The first two attempts wound up failing on me after 3 or 4 weeks in that the Chaeto would grow but die off and melt over time. I believe the reactor combined with my skimmer was efficiently pulling all the Nitrate/Phosphate from my water and over time starved. I'm on my 3rd go around now. I dialed back my skimmer some and seem to have found a balancing point where I'm skimming less and feeding enough to keep up with what its pulling out. I harvested just this past week what you saw a few posts back. I've found it be a great means of nutrient export however it has had little impact on PH as far as I can tell. As a whole whether you do it in a reactor or traditional refugium its a great export tool.

I got to be somewhere at noon so I'll get back to you on the CO2 reactor and PH a bit later.

Currently in the midst of calamity!!! Attempt to replace my reefer gate valve has resulted in a leaking bulkhead. Sump/Plumbing has been torn apart for the 3rd time. Im mixing some water now to try another leak test. Im holding out a littl hope i can fix it but worst case ill move everything to a spare 40B and upgrade the tank to something 4 or 5 feet.

I'm gonna sound like a bad reefer friend, but I haven't checked out your build until now. I'm usually on my phone and I don't see signatures on there... I need to remember to turn that thing sideways every now and then. Well now that I'm here, how is that Reefbright working for ya?

Welcome Robin! You found it is all that matters. I dont post here as often i should.

Loving the Pop of the Reef Brite! Not nearly as much shimmer as Kessil but was expecting that. Funny how a leak totally zapped the Reefbrite from my mind over the weekend. Ill post up some pics tonight.

A super slow leak will self seal with salt creep.

They typically don't worsen and gush like freshwater tanks do.
Good to know. Thanks! I used a boat load of plumbers tape to seal this one up. Reefers dont use a standard bulkhead so id have been in a bit if trouble if i couldnt fix.

That's kind of annoying. Hard to get parts.
I nearly lost my mind when three of the homedepot hose clamps pretty much fell apart just from putting them on a hose.

Yeah, i hate anything that fails "Out of Box" or new! Drives me nuts and have to deal with it constantly at work. The unique nature of the reefer plumbing has me re-thining upgrade plans. Theyre a gorgeous tank but the metric parts and proprietary crap they use forcing you to order through them bugs me some.

Life’s simply put just in the way of my Hobby lately but ive made a few recent moves.

1st. i pulled my Kessils and added a reefbrite a few weeks back. I like the color rendition but probably a bad move as I think the reef was happier and had more light before. I got a Seneye to measure Par and am barely cracking 100 on the sand bed. I think i see an Orphek in the future moving the T5/reefbrite to a future plan.

2nd. I made the jump to Triton. Starting with “Other Methods”. If i see success i may get a PaxBellum and go full Triton. Or swap out my sump for something with a Fuge. Pricing would be similar.

3rd. See second pic... Yep We’re starting something!

Water is doing well.
