Just saw this post from MASNA's FB page cancelling MACNA 2024:

The way that’s worded makes it sound like it’s potentially not just this year that will be cancelled but maybe all new shows, like MACNA could be done forever depending on how some things play out behind the scenes.

sucks

Sucks as I was hoping to go as last in my area before 2015 as I recall.

Could it be fake considering twice they call themselves MASNA?

No…. MASNA (Marine Aquarium Society of North America) is the organization that puts on the show called MACNA (Marine Aquarium CONFERENCE of North America)

I think it is legit....MASNA stands for Marine Aquarium Societies of North American.....they put on the MACNA show. *Wow, 4 posts came in while I was typing...ignore my response lol*

Well then this really sucks :frowning-face:

People aren’t going to the shows as much as they used to. I’m going to one that is two months out that still has half its vendor booths available.

Unfortunately it’s looking that way for several reasons similar to last year and questions despite the planning team plan, the future of this event

On a bright note. Perhaps RAP grows. Assuming demand remains then it could be just too large a venue and vendors will seek cheaper alternatives to get their products displayed. Can't see this hobby vanishing. That would just be silly.

Although RAP Orlando had a large rear section empty being my first trip not sure if that was norm or telling.

No mention on their site and they still have registration open. Hmmmm. Its a bummer if true. Feel like in person stuff has really gone by the wayside. Even locally, getting participation in local clubs is super hard.

Attendance is way down. Sales are in the toilet. Sad to see this happening but the hobby is in need of a serious reset.

Sales at shows are down. The hobby is doing better than ever. It's booming. If anything we are only seeing less new people enter as rising prices and stagnating wages conspire to make this a rich man's game only. But people actually buying livestock are buying more than ever.

Just... I wasn't going to buy anything alive at MACNA anyway. I would have to fly it home somehow. We have a yearly local frag swap that scratches that itch. You just need to live closer to a big city.

Sales industry wide are down

I agree that some businesses and high end collectors are buying right now. Inventory is up on a lot of livestock. Even wholesalers are having sales. I think they are banking on getting a good investment return.

Perhaps The Greater Fool theory...
