I have begun to setup a 55 gallon macro algae display tank. So far I have about 30lbs of live sand and 40lbs of dry rock in the tank and I have begun to cycle the tank. I am currently working on the overall aquascape for the tank. I am trying to put some macro algae in the tank that would be really nice to look at. Not too sure if I am going to place any fish in the tank at this time. Any suggestions on macro that looks good in a display tank?

Thanks for the info..

Dragons tongue, green finger...

only two I can think of without googling

I know several sites that offer amazing selections of macro, and amazing prices too! Here are the links:

Have a nice day, share pictures when the tank is set up!
Good luck and God bless!

It is say 17 of my new build. I am still cycling the tank.
My parameters are as follows:
Ph- 8.0
Ammonia- .25
Nitrite- .50
Nitrate- 40ppm

I guess my next question is when I would begin to add macros. I have had no light on the tank during the cycling and I know that once I put macros in I will have to give light to them so this will start the process of getting some bad algae in the tank. I was just wondering when everyone was starting their tanks at what point you all started to put in your macros. Here is what the tsnk looks like all ready to go now.

You should get a build thread badge so people can link to this build.

I'm gonna be following along because I bet its gonna be awesome!

Gulf coast ecosystem has a lot of macro algae to choose from. They also have sponges, snails and RFA

I have a 20g AIO my side side hobby and i got Dragons tongue sitting on the bottom and has really grown alot in very little flow with little care. I cycled with the dragons tongue in the tank no problems. Also, got some Purple Fauchea that stuff is cool but requires calcium still looks great though.

Where do you get your macros from? I have gotten mine from Gulf Coast Ecosystems and I have been happy with my macros so far. Here is what the tank looks like today so far.

That is really clean! I had a problem with mine out competing each other but these two seem to be happy now. They were tiny when i got them. I did get some Ogo from @AlgaeBarn but it all ended up in the fuge of the other tank. Its doing really well in there, seems to like the tumble. The others i got from ebay, not worth the money btw, but they didnt die and grew into a good sized piece now. They were like quarter sized when i got them lol.

Yes, that is a real issue when trying to house multiples together. They like to out compete unless you dose the elements they need, especially if you want a boomin macro tank! :D

@mrjohnreed what are the little broccoli looking ones (for lack of better words) at the bottom left?
@SPSlover I am not really sure why they are. I got them as part of a sampler of Halimeda. I got 2 of those as well as shaving brush and 2 mermaid fan. The shaving brush and the halimeda opuntia are growing now.

How do you do that (setup a build thread Badge?)... Im new this year to reefing and salt water tanks and fish. Just this year we started a 15 gallon which was to small for my dreams Reef tank.... I decided to Buy a RedSea Reefer 350. Im also looking to setup an Algae Display tank now.
