macro algae in protien skimmer?

octo classic 1000 hob has a seperate chamber for the return water. could u use that as a algae refugium? picture attached

I would not. That area is so small that if you were to grow macro fast enough to be effective, you would have to constantly remove some.
 
My concern would be that the macro algae would affect flow and possibly even create a blockage which could lead to the skimmer not skimming appropriately and could even lead to an overflow. Additionally, the light spillage could create a problem with other types of algae growing where you do not want it to grow. If you already have the HOB skimmer and want to experiment then I would do it in a space where you are willing to risk an overflow. Good luck with whatever you decide!

so just incase anyone else is wondering, i spoke to the manufacturer and they said it is possible to grow macro algae in it but like ^ this guy said be careful of overflow. so i will just have to keep an eye on it
