Macro bleaching, some die off, some periodic bleaching

relatively new tank, 6 weeks maybe.

Odd issue.. my new caulerpa racemosa is mad. It’s growing like a weed along the sand, but some parts are bleaching out, including newer growth. I recently turned up the light so everything is bubbling oxygen. I thought this would be a good thing, as the C. prolifera is now growing and the gracilaria is a happy bubbling mess with major growth. Is the light too strong, or is the racemosa being out-competed? I do not dose anything yet, just feeding one small fish.

Hmm, honestly, it can be pretty normal for the plant to be doing well while certain strands aren't surviving. I'd start by pruning some of the strands going white, this can help encourage some new growth. Hope this caulerpa starts thriving soon!

Thank you! I ended up doing exactly that today, cutting out the translucent and unhealthy parts, and keeping mainly just the new growth.

I suggest you dial back your light. Your tank is nutrient limited. Either feed more or reduce light intensity so that your seaweed doesn’t go sexual.

I did a lot of research and finally came to the same conclusion. I bought chaetogro and iron supplements yesterday. Thank you!
