Macro Coral Shots from my reef

Hi all,

Just picked up a new 60mm f/2.0 macro lens for my DSLR. I figured I would share some of the better photos I have gotten in the last couple of days.

All photos were taken with a custom white balance, f# between 2.0-12, shutter speed based on proper exposure for f#, and ISO 100.

Post processing was minimal, with slight changes to WB, exposure, and resizing/adding watermark.

Any and all feedback is welcome - I am very new to the macro photography game.

What brand lense? How much?

It is a Tamron 60mm f/2.0 macro. I think it was $524 or something like that with a $100 mail in rebate (the rebate is good 'till Dec 31st iirc).

One great thing about it is the focusing is all internal, so the lens doesn't change lengths when focusing - nice for getting right up against the glass with the lens hood to prevent any reflection and get as close to the subject as possible.

Thanks! Using a custom white balance on the camera (by taking a picture of a piece of white pvc pipe I stuck in the tank) really made a huge difference on the colors. Get that color temperature right makes any color adjustment during post processing unnecessary.

Thanks Krys. I am pretty happy with the progress I made in just a couple of days. Shooting in full manual was somewhat intimidating, but it is amazing what you can learn in this day and age in a small amount of time using the internet. Heck, I suppose I owe the success of my reef tank to the same thing

Thanks Tonya! I have become particularly attached to the photo of the acan feeding with all its tentacles out!
