Macro lens suggestions

I have a Nikon d70 and want to purchase a macro lens. Just wondering what is being used for that camera or ones similar.

Tamron and sigma are both good. Nikon is best.

The 60mm or the 90mm.

It's just magnification.
The 90 is a narrow (closer ) view.

A lotta folks love the 90. For me, I don't always like to get that close.

In a perfect world($$$$) id have both.

If you have a real camera store , maybe Best Buy too, have them show it to you with your camera.

I like to take a penny with me and kinda set it the distance from the tank glass to the coral.

I have a Tokina 100 mm on my Nikon D7000 and love it. I also wish I had a 50 mm macro lens as well. It's hard to get a full shot of a lot of my coral when I am shooting top down. Here is my tank thread with a lot of my pictures.

I have a 105 macro Nikkor and I love it. I also have the 200 mm macro nikkor, gets you 1:1 from 16 inches away, but not very practical for corals ; both are very expensive lenses, but are super sharp. A 60 or 50 mm macro would be very useful. Briefly, both the 60 and 105 mm macro nikkor will give you a 1:1 reproduction ratio, but the 60 will do it at a substantially shorter distance, so it is better when working on tight spaces (eg top down shots, where your are limited to how far you can go up above the tank); the 100 and 200 mm will be better for fish because you can take close up pictures from far away, so the fish are not spooked

Awesome thank you for the info! So would this be a good lens with $120 price tag...

I would say that's a pretty good deal on a Tamron 90mm. I've been keeping an eye out for a good deal on em. Just make sure you get pictures with a flashlight behind the lens so it shows any dust/mold/fog trapped in the lens itself.
