What would happen if I left cheato in a reactor for too long, I’m talking what if I put it in than came back to it a year later

I would imagine that it would continue to grow until it couldn't anymore, and then start dying off. The denser it gets, the less light parts of it will receive.

That’s what I thought, eventually crashing the tank from releasing back the nutrients
I don't think it would crash the tank per-say, but yes some nutrients would get released back into the water, thats why we periodically prune back our macroalgae so that it doesn't A: consume to many nutrients and B:die off and release the nutrients back into the water column ;)

I’m looking to leave my tank long term in the future

Most living things when placed in a confined space will grow until there is no more room to grow, no more food to eat, no more air to breath or a type of disease (parisite) kills it.
Oh its hooked to a tank???? It would depend on the size of reactor and size of tank. Some things in your tank would love it. Some would not.

No, I’m planning on downsizing my 120 to a 45-60 gallon and trying to set it up so I do absolutely nothing lol

If you have to feed your tank now and no one feeds it, things will die.
If you do water changes and they dont get done then things will die.
If you have heaters and powerheads and the power goes off, things will die.
Im not really sure why you would want to do this.
I would give all the livestock away. Put the rock in tubs of water. Drain the tank. Start over.

Get a 10,000 gallon sump full of live everything and you will be fine even when all those fancy things fail.
