Macroalgae overrun

Have you thought about raising your pH to help combat the dinos?
I haven’t. I read that article and may consider adding kalk to my top off. I dose soda ash at night to stabilize pH but maybe I’ll switch it to the day to spike the pH during the photosynthetically active hours to combat the Dinos. I believe Randy Holmes-Farley when he says stable pH isn’t critical to organisms and that had been my reason for doing the dosing the way I do. Thank you for pointing that out.

Raising pH won't work unless you can keep it elevated past 8.5. Unless you've got something controlling pH at that level it will fluctuate throughout the day and dip below 8.5. To have it higher for extended periods of time would result in the livestock suffering in some way. The linked article also states that is doesn't work on all types nor does it list any of the types typically seen in our tanks like ostreopsis, coolia, and amphidinium.

Nutrient control can take several months depending on the type and severity of bloom. But it will work and is the only way to keep them away. Stay the course. It will work.
