made a mistake with biospira/prime

new tank first time doing it this way and i made an error apparently

I usually use prime as a water conditioner but instead of doing a regular cycle i used biospira and added a few small fish to the 40breeder. I noticed the water cloud over today and everyone is panting hard. Its not oxygen,ph or copper as its a new tank. I was reading biospira doesn't work with prime in the tank but how do I remedy this situation before it gets worse? The few fish are mad should I go in with another bottle of biospira? Prime is suppose to be bio-active for 48 hours and i last used is about 24 hours ago

The main issue I would be concerned about when mixing prime with biospira would be oxygen depletion. Both can deplete oxygen. You said it is not O2 because its a new tank, but I wouldn't be sure of that as tank age shouldnt affect o2 levels. Also, cloudy water often indicates a bacterial bloom which can deplete o2 quickly. I would increase aeration with a powerhead aimed at the surface of the aquarium.

I also suspect elevated ammonia anytime fish are breathing hard.

Another concern with mixing prime and biospira is the prime may lock up ammonia, thus starving the bacteria out.

A substantial water change may be helpful.

Disease/parasites can cause panting as well.

was going to do another bottle of biospira and a airstone tonight just did a 20% change an hour ago on water does that sound appropriate

Not a problem going to run out now I turned the jabeo up for now and theres an aquaclear running carbon

Powerhead will do more for O2 than an airstone, but it sounds good.

I might test for ammonia before redosing biospira.

So one thing that I would suggest is to not do a thing. Let it play out. Everytime I cycle a tank in a quick fashion, the tank gets what looks like a bacteria bloom. You may or may not have the ability to save the fish, but you def have bacteria in it. If the fish die, do not do a water change for about a week. Don't even test the water until,1 week has gone by. If i was you, i would not add anymore variables to the equation or you could,make it worse.

Easy decision...the fish are in distress and the reason could be low oxygen or ammonia. Excess bacteria that may happen to be in the water column comes second to that...

WC will remove the prime. The prime prevents accurate measure of ammonia, prevents bacteria from using ammonia.

If it's a bloom, it will remove whatever is feeding the bloom be it ammonia or something else.

Its a new tank. Let the bacteria bloom. What harm is there in that? If you just start doing more amd more to the tank, the variables are just too much to account for. I would say the best bet is to sit back and watch what happens naturally. Obviously ensure that salinity and temp are good.

coral beauty disappeared overnight everyone else is still alive and about the same today. The water is still very cloudy you can barely see live rock in the tank no measurable ammonia is showing up on the test kit though

Been there recently, I don’t have a skimmer so I agitated surface with powerhead and added an air stone. Cleared up in a day
