Mag 12, 9.5 impeller shaft diameters

Does anyone know the diameters of the ceramic impeller shafts for the Mag 12 and 9.5 pump impellers? I'm going to get carbon-fiber rods to replace the ceramic shafts and, obviously, want the correct diameters. Haven't had any luck finding the specs.

Do you have the old shaft?

You could use a micrometer ot calipers to measure it

Hmmm I never heard of replacing the ceramic shafts with Carbon Fiber rods! What is the purpose of doing this Gary? Strength reasons? Heat Reasons? Interesting and quite intrigued right now as I had to replace the Ceramic shaft in my Panworld pump.

the ceramic shafts are 1/8 of an inch on both HTH

i have an back up one i just measured....

Harry, Yes, measuring would be an option, but I'm not at home, don't have a shaft with me, and have a chance to get carbon-fiber material at a good price.

Fishcrazy, I want to replace them because the ceramic shafts break too easily; I haven't found a place that will sell ceramic replacements without selling the entire impeller; and several have told me that the carbon-fiber shafts are more flexible, will last longer, and actually perform better. I'm just tired of opening a pump to clean it and being very nervous that I'm going to break the shaft every time I take the impeller apart.

Angels, thanks for making the extra effort to measure. I appreciate it. This hobby shop has that diameter and I can get a 4-ft. length for about $5. That should give me several replacements for next to nothing.

I totally agree with them breaking easily, that is why i have an old back up. It is actually super glued together so will only be used in a pinch...

Not a problem, glad i could help. BTW, the only difference between a mag 12 and a mag 9.5 is the length of the magnet inside. The shafts are the same length. Let us know how that works as I would love to replace the ceramic in mine. Every since i have changed out the impellers, it takes 3 or 4 shots to get it started....

Got 1/8-in. dia. carbon-fiber rod, and I can tell it's too small. Had my wife measure the piece of broken shaft I have at home and she says it's 3/16. I'll have to do a measurement when I get home to be sure, though I'm sure she's right.

not to argue, but i'm looking right at mine and it's 1/8". But mine is a 12b so maybe that is where the difference lies...

Why didn't you ask her to do that in the first place?

Interesting. Once I held it in my hand, I realized it was smaller than the shaft I broke. Didn't ask my wife to measure initially because she wasn't available.

only thing i can think of is the "B", cause mine is definitely 1/8"

my friend has a 9.5, and his measures 5mm i believe. (he used a micrometer)
he ordered a SS shaft for his.

Would you mind asking where your friend got SS shafts? Carbon-fiber at that size, I'm learning, is almost impossible to find. SS would be an excellent solution.
