I have a mag 9.5 in the sump attached to pcv. Extremely noisy. ... Should I replace with another pump. Driving me nuts! Lol

I am running the same setup and mine is actually reasonably quiet. Is it the pump itself making noise or is something vibrating (such as the PVC)?

Can't tell if pcv, ball valve or mag 9.5. Noise let up at fully open, but return level in sump gets to low.

Mag drives are pretty noisy, hot and draw a good amount of wattage, I'm very happy with my DC9000, quiet and takes half the power of the mag.

PaulKreider, I may go with another pump. Everyone swear that mags are the best. I'm new to sumps. Will research the dc9000. Does the dc9000 have the same gph.

The mag pumps were the best in their price range but the new DC pumps put them to shame, especially when it comes to heat produced and energy wasted.

Mag pumps are well known to be noisy, run hot, and draw more power than comparable pumps. Many many better pumps in the same price range.
That being said, install a couple barbed connectors and a short piece of vinyl tubing directly off the pumps discharge and it will make it much quieter. This breaks up the vibrations transmitted through solid piping plus takes any stress from misalignments out of play.

I had a 9.5, but I could not deal with how noisy it was. I tried a few things to reduce the noise. The fall into the sump was a contributer so I built a reverse durso. That fixed that right up. But then I realized just how loud the pump was and had to change it out. I will say that I am extremely sensitive to humming noises though. I cannot stand to have the bath fan on and there pretty much has to be a fire in the kitchen for me to turn the stove vent on.

Right now I have a mag 5 since it isn't as powerful it isn't as loud, but I need to increase the flow so will be replacing that with a larger quieter pump.

use a few inches of vinyl tubing, also every now and again I take the shaft out and press both ends to make sure they are fully seated... seems to solve problem...

The DC6000 would likely be about the same GPH I believe, I run a bean animal overflow so its very quiet, the return pump is the loudest thing by far on my tank and its hardly noticable.
