My mag is been at 1600 for a few weeks I stopped dosing a month ago but It has not lowers I'm using Red Sea reef salt pro I dose brs 2 part and that's it my alk is at 8.6 and my cal is at 450. Is there a way to lower this without doing a 50% water change. Is it even a bad thing for it to be this high. Will corals still uptake the other trace elements with the mag being so high. Thanks for any input

It's not the end of the world. I would just stop dosing and it will come down on its own. Corals don't use very much mag. Using a salt with a good mag amounts in it along with weekly water changes or even bi weekly should keep it in order

I do weekly 15 gallons in a 93 cube and the salt I use has 1300 mag. It's kind of high for a salt mix but I have the 5 gallon container and I really don't want to spend another 70 bucks on a different salt

I keep mine at 1600 or so. Battled byropsis and since I just keep mine high. Have noticed no problems myself in an sps dominant tank. RBTA included

Your test kit may be off. It should be that high with the materials you are using. What kit are you using?

Try measuring some new salt water.

Using safiert test Kit. Brand new kit tested at my saltwater store a reef creation. I was dosing mag that may have caused it to get that high to begin with. Just thought after a month it should have came down. If it's not a threat I'll just ride it out till it gets used up

Mag tends to be high in Red Sea and SeaChem salts. My mag is always around 1500 and doesn't seem to have any ill effects on anything.

Yes, I would just wait and not dose any,a nd it willt ake a very long time to deplete (except by water change).

Magnesium depletion rates by consumption may only be 1 ppm per day, and even less in many cases. :)
