How long do these things last? I have a new tank setup and had an old one, I am getting some hard green Algae on the glass that I have read shows a good established tank however, I can not scrape this crap off with my mag float. Is there something elses I can use? Snails? Get a new bigger mag float?

I have 3 sizes of Kent pro scrapers, they work great especially on the hard stuff. I've never been a huge fan of Mag Floats, there are other much more more powerful options.

If you have a glass tank you can razor blade it off. After that just magfloat every day or two to prevent it from taking hold on the glass. You could get a different brand of magnetic cleaner but I've only used magfloats so I can't say how much better or worse the more expensive ones are. GL. Just be glad it's not a bad algae.

They do sell replacement pads for the Mag Float….example HERE.

I also use a Reef Gadget It gets glued to your Mag Float.

Don’t know if this particular one is still available, but there are others that get glued to your Mag Float and have a plastic or metal razor blade. Really makes a difference.

I purchased a hand scraper from HD. Its made out of rubber & plastic and I just throw away the razor when I'm done.

I got some sand under the mag float on my last glass tank and it put a big scratch in it, so I don't use them any more either. I get one of the $3 ones at petsmart for glass and use the kent one for acrylic. I use a magic eraser sponge on both which does a great job!
