Hi guys

Got an issue I hope someone can help with.

Details-

3” Magnificent foxface, purchased on December 7th. Ruby reef rally dip fir 90 minutes then into 10g tank (hob with intact biofilter, airstone, heater, pvc elbow, ammonia badge reading zero) with water at 1.00 ppm copper power.

3 day ramp up to 1.75ppm (1.81 ppm actual), therapeutic copper clock started on December 10th

Been eating a combo of formula 2, marine cuisine mixed with selcon, medium tdo chroma boost.

This morning- fed at 9 am, go to fishroom to put food back in fridge- he’s completely black, upside down. Sees me, turns normal colours, and flashes his dorsal spikes a bunch of times.

Come down at 1.30, and he’s in sleeping coloration (pic) sitting on the bottom.

Full lights on in the room though. Flashes dorsal spikes, returns to normal color, but half laying on the bottom.

Got video right at this point. Send to be breathing heavy. Flukes?

I have an empty 40 breeder. I’m thinking ill get it set up and move him to it. 10g too small for this dude? He was in a 20 in the store for 4-5 weeks, acting fine.

Should I do a RODI dip, and check for flukes, or do another ruby reef rally dip? If I do RODI- 5 minutes, heavy oxygenated, can I do 1.75ppm copper? Will doing a FW dip reset the copper clock?

Meds on hand- metroplex and focus. No antibiotics on hand.

Thoughts?

I don’t reset the clock when I FW Dip. The fish will be in FW without any parasites (sterile tank). Then will return to therapeutic copper.

I think he looks alright neilp. You can dip just to be safe. Nothing wrong with dipping!

I’m having a bit of a freak out... worst thing to do would be unnecessarily stress him out by being hastily proactive

My coolest fish, bucket list, and he’s been so out of sorts today. I’ll monitor, but prep for a dip and a upgrade to the 40.

Thanks

I agree no need to reset the clock with a FW dip.

I would dip him and continue copper in larger tank as you plan.

Since FW are only good for temporary relief- plan moving forward? Another ruby reef rally dip? Do that instead of FW?

Thanks- just want to have a 5 day plan in my head before jumping into treatment

I would only do FW dip. That should provide relief if flukes are attached. Then you can move to praziquantel post copper. If necessary you can always do an additional FW dip a week later to relieve again.

First thing a 3" foxface in a 10gal tank? WAY too small a tank.Probably why he's stressing. Your 40 might be too small in a couple of months. Try feeding him Nori. And another thing Foxfaces are very hyper fish, try not to stress him too much - dippings and moving will stress him.

Yeah, the 10 g seems to be a bit small, but it’s a QT tank. He was living in a 20 for 5 weeks at the shop with no issue, with 7-8 other fish, so I thought the 10g by himself (actually with a 1” Goby that didn’t make it) would be ok, if a little cramped. I would have put him in my 20, except I used it as a ato container the day before I got him.

Once he’s out of copper qt- in another week— he’s going into the 40b, then 3 weeks or so later, into a 180.

I might put him into the 40 sooner, but he’ll need to be in a 10 for 48 hours after copper so I can clean and dry it. I don’t have a second spare 40

Gotcha. He'll be loving life in a 180

So I got my 40b cleaned out, and started topping up my salt container and making more RODI, and by the time I got that sorted, he was acting and looking a lot better.

He ate like a pig when I fed at 6.30, then went straight to sleep when I turned out the lights.

If he’s acting funny tomorrow, I’ll do the dip and transfer him to the 40b. I might transfer him anyway for the extra space to keep him a bit calmer.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the rapid responses

Great update! Where did you buy our TDO Chroma BOOST? We are happy to hear that you have incorporated this food into the diet.

Best,
Chad

BRS.

I figured any of the more colorful fish species could benefit, but I bought it specifically after seeing a side by side shot of a pair of ocellaris clowns before s d after. Colors were amazing.

I got medium, which michael J Foxface loves, some small, that the onyx clown like.

Great. If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. If you have corals, they can be fed TDO as well, especially TDO A (75 to 250 microns). Thanks for getting back to me.
Best,
Chad
