3 months ago I noticed that she had the mouth swollen.

After a few weeks she climbed down from the top of the rock to the side and she began moving around the rock. Sometimes she stretched her foot and looked like she was about to split in 2.

She hasn't returned to the top of the rock since then but she never deflated.

The mouth has been getting more and more swollen.

Can this be part of a normal splitting process?

I am not sure on if that is related to splitting. I have had them split, but they always grew a second mouth before splitting. I say grew a second mouth, but the mouth divides, becomes 2 mouths and then they split the rest of the way.

@OrionN any ideas?

How long does the process take?

The mouth is still closed but it's been extremely swollen.

A few days ago she returned to her normal position on the rock and her mouth looks like this.

One thing I forgot to mention is that she used to ball up almost everyday and since this process began a few months ago, she hasn't balled up a single time.

I don’t think it is splitting. First thing you see when Magnifica anemone split is that they look bad, partial deflated. Then you will see a hole in the foot of the anemone, seeing rock through the mouth of the anemone. Then the anemone will elongated with one part of the foot meg one way and the other part move the other , opposite direction. Then the anemone rip apart. One side first the. The other side.
i don’t know what your anemone is doing, but it is not splitting IMO.

Thanks OrionN.

I have seen her almost split in 2 a few times since this whole thing began a few months ago, but not exactly the signs you describe.

This worries me a lot, it's a huge animal and it can nuke the whole tank. I have a webcam pointed at her so that I can easily check on her.

A couple of weeks ago, she had half the foot lose from the rock. I think she sensed the glass nearby and was trying to reach for it but the current didn't let her do it.

Where before the mouth was just swollen, now it is extremely elongated.

I remember reading about cases where the split is halted halfway through.

I shot this over 2 years ago. At first I thought she was going to split.

My mag that I had for over 12 years tried to split twice exactly how Orion described it but never completed it. I could see the rock through the mouth and it would elongate but then after a couple of days, it closed back up. I don't remember it looking like yours.
