Anyone ever have one of their mag pumps (I think I have the 12) basically not want to start back up after a power failure or after it is plugged back in? There is no build up of Calcium or anything else blocking it, but I basically need to push something into the prop to get it going again each time we lose power to it. Thoughts??? Would a new prop fix this? Perhaps this is a good chance to get a new return pump. Are there any good ones out there that are low heat/energy but are higher GPH (submersible of course)? Thanks.

This one seems to be lower wattage for a reasonable price

I have heard of a build up of calcium on the magnet part of the impellar. It got so thick that the pump slowed. Maybe the power failure allows just enough particulates to accumulate to stop the pump entirely.

since the impeller turns after you mess with it.....there can't be anything wrong the the body of the mag drive b/c there aren't any other moving parts inside the pump other than the impeller shaft.

you might have build up inside the gromets (those rubber stoppers on the ends), and thats prventing the shaft from spinning initially. or, may have a build up on a magnet, or a stuck washer.

first thing i would do is stick the whole pump in a bucket of vinegar and run a while.....see if that helps.

but depending on how old the pump is (if it has several years on it), you should just buy a new impeller.

thats what i did, as either my gromets or washers were worn out and my pump was making a horrible racket of noise. put a new impeller in there, dead silent and runs as good as new.

Did the vinegar thing and it is clean as a whistle. Guess I'll invest in a new impeller. Thanks for the tips everyone.
