Got a call from my lfs this morning telling me that a mag they had ordered for a local business couldnt be sold to them because it was in bad shape and they were reordering for the customer. I was told if I wanted to try and save it come get it. When I got there it looked bad.
Here it is in the bag at the lfs 20 mins after the truck dropped it off. Btw there were 3 ice packs in the small box with only the nem. The water was freezing!!:uhoh3:

I had to get back to school so the only option I had was to run home quicker than I wanted to temp acclimate it and drop it in a spot in my dt till I could get home tonight. (I was late back to class btw) Here are few pics of it in the dt.

After I got home I grabbed a spare 10 gallon and a few rocks I took out of the dt yesterday while doing maintenance, a air stone, and the two older t8 bulbs I had over my clownfish tank and 10 gallon of water from the dt and made a hospital tank to move it to. I dont think a heater is needed as my room stays warm and the 10 isnt big enough for a powerhead and the nem. Here it is in the ht right after transfer and 250mg of cipro added

Some time during its brief stay in my dt it got tore on something

Any advice other than what I have already done to try and save this large beauty would be greatly welcomed.

Its mouth seems to have closed tightly which is a good sign. I'd give it good light and try to feed it some chopped table shrimp. If it doesn't eat it, try again the next day. It does need some flow though. Do you have a MJ 1200 or something like that to get the flow going? You can get a cheap Aqua Tech at Walmart to use. It comes with a cover.

Anemone need to have constant temp of 80 or so. Your room is likely have temp of lower 70's. A good heater is needed. You need a PH to improve circulation. You got to have eggcrate to separate the anemone from the PH compartment or the PH will suck and unattached anemone into it's in take. The anemone will need a lot of water change to keep the water from fouling up. You don't want to have LR in the treatment tank. Keep something that do not have any bacterial in it for the anemone to attach to. The bacterial in the LR will be effect by the antibiotic and complicate thing. You need to use water change to keep the water clean.
I disagree with Connie. Don't feed the anemone when it is sick. It will worsen things. That anemone looks horrible. I don't think you will be able to save it.

I don't see how feeding it would worsen anything. If anything I would think it needs the nutrition right now.

I've brought several from the brink by feeding or maybe I just got lucky. I can't dispute Orion's knowledge on anemone. I hope he makes it bj!

When anemones are sick (infected) they just cannot digest food. Feeding will not help because they cannot get the nutrient from it. It is OK in a reef tank, if you feed the anemone and it does not eat, the tank will take care of the un-eaten food. In a treatment tank, like bj's, there is nothing to take care of the food and it will just foul up the water.
When an anemone is infected, feeding will just increase the fuel for the bacterial insider the anemone cavity. We all notice, at least I, that unless healthy, anemone will deflates when it is fed.

The above is only true if anemone is infected. Anemone can be sick due to various things, bleaching, bad water condition ect... An anemone that is not infected but in poor condition will need the nutrient to heal itself. They really need feeding. Once we cure the anemone of the infection, feeding is essential to help improve it's healthy.

Nem was dead the next morning after it come in from the wholesale facility. I was told by the pet store to keep a HT up and running as if this next one comes in looking bad its mine too and they would just keep reordering for the local business till they got a health looking one shipped to them. I know the HT wasnt set up properly but it was all I could get on the spur of the moment to get one set up as I was at school when I got the call to come get it. I've now got a cheap power head from wal mart and bought a heater. I took the lr out and now just have water a power head a heater and air stone in the tank. I still need to go get some egg crate from lowes along with some other diy stuff for my tank. I have successfully treated lta's, bta's, and one mag that I've had for over 8 months that is doing amazing. Minh's protocol is pretty good and has saved a lot of anemones from certain death. That write up needs to be brought over to this fourm.
