Maggie's Mixed Reef Build V3, now a 75!

Found a nice rainbow bta and a neat tube anenome. Also another blue tuxedo urchin.

And please someone talk me into or out of the ribbon eel. So purty in person. Saw the ghost/white color. Dang that blue must be incredible @Goaway !

If you are able to have it thrive you’ll have one of the greatest reefing rewards!

They are very tricky to make them thrive…..

Keep away from the white ghost, they WILL eat other fish. Not even the dame species as the blue/yellow ribbon (Rhinomuraena)

And yes, blues are very amazing, breath taking even.

Bummer because it was so purty. Shop guy says he can get the blue type but it was spendy, said usually around 600. Does that seem right?

What's the smallest fish you have yours with, @Goaway ?

I do have a mandarin, the only fish I think would be a target since it just stops and hovers to hunt. My other small snack size fish are a 6line wrasse and 2 springeri damsels, but I think they are fast enough probably.

I'm certainly not trying to get an eel today, I like to mull over purchases for ever before I talk myself into it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Not 600 heck no
If you really want one, Tank stop 188. Big difference huh?

Out of stock, but Eric Cohen is a great guy, and is on r2r. Free ship at 250 now, it was 200.

Smallest fish is firefish currently. Was the Corris wrasse under half an inch, but she grew fast! 3 fish are the right size for my ribbon eel. She will not touch them. I even have a dalmation molly in the tank with the ribbon who swims past the ribbon eel like a stroll in the park.

I keep forgetting about that flipper.

I really like to isolate ribbon eels, 20g long would be the smallest I would go with. With a tight cover, I really mean tight!
This will help you adjust the eel to a select diet.

Mine knows, pineapple molly, neon molly are her dinner meals. Everyone else is part of the tank.

Wow. Much better pricing. Thankfully I don't buy on a whim cuz I'd be mad at that!!

Do they ship ok? Even the young small one I saw yesterday was long.

So you isolate to make sure they're feeding properly prior to tank introduction, correct? Feeding live mollies, by hand or just let them go and hunt for it? I have no problem feeding live if required, waaaay back in the day I did have a big tank with pacus and Oscars and those were fed live as well. Although, now I have kids so I'll have to explain some things.

Do they bring many diseases? Is treatments required right away, or do they come in rather clean?

I followed several pieces of advice, heard (herd???) molly's to the eel to trigger a feeding response. HOWEVER

I always had success getting them to eat raw shrimp as their first meal. If you decide to get one, we will cover feeding triggers. As it can be a lengthy process. And, dim room lights + a tank light brighter than the ambient room. Not overly bright though.

Eric is pretty smart with shipping the eels, mine had a gallon of water and it was clean. So, I do trust his skills in shipping the eels.

I did not see velvet, or ich with my eel. I look out for marine leeches. Rare, but they can appear as morey eels are their main host.
But most are rather clean, that slime coat is pretty thick.

Yes I just read your response to someone else's question about eels, and your isolation tank and getting it to feed and trust you. I like what you did there and certainly would want to do the same.

Now I can have sweet eel dreams. I bet it looks so magical swimming about.

Also, wish me luck on my anenome! Looks good, and was in the shop tank for 8months apparently, so it was stable at least. Ordered some Cipro just in case things turn.

Planning on adding it to the Evo over I get my noopsyche mini on it. Should be here on the 20th. I'll keep it in the basket until then so it doesn't meet my power head.

Also, had a conversation about the goni's. Shop guy says his luck with them is dependent on high magnesium levels. He said anytime goni's look sad to check the mg, it's probably low. I haven't tested mine in a while, so I'll do that today.

@Mhamilton0911

The first night I added the solar wrasse, I was sure he was an expensive meal. He was paralyzed with fear when he saw her, he froze and I was sure he was done for.
She was just inspecting.

Good luck with the nem and getting the goni's to open. It pains me when they get fussy.

some folks just do AP mode and skip the whole wifi setup
Yeah, Lan never worked for me, I got the mini set up a while ago and I followed the same process, and it worked for one light, but when I plugged in the second, all went to heck. Lost connection with the first and now I'm back at the beginning. I was too busy today to give it a proper try, and tomorrow I'm gone all day, so hopefully I can get back on track soon.
