I haven’t changed anything with my routine, but my magic carpet mushroom went from large and happy to small and loosing some of its “fuzzy” tentacles and very sad overnight.

Parameters:
Nitrate:8 ppm
Phosphate: 0.03-0.1ppm
Alk: 8.7
Cal: 430
Temp 76-77
Salinity: 35

I just changed out my activated carbon this morning so I am hoping if there is some chemical warfare happening that should help out. Any ideas?

No changes to the flow? Mine seems to like lower flow and will stretch further out
Nope, no changes to flow. The more I think about it I did increase lighting by 1% last week.. but if that was it, wouldn’t it have been ticked sooner?

In my experience any kind of minor or major changes to system can make them fussy. Especially if it's been acclimated to a spot and system has seen 0 changes in any significat amount of time. Low flow just on the outskirts of direct light is where mine seems to thrive. Any changes it doesn't like it let's me know asap.

That is one of the reasons I was concerned. It seems like the “canary” of the tank. I waited all yesterday to see if it would perk back up. I was wondering if it was splitting, but it hasn’t acted like normal mushrooms do. Appreciate the insights!

Mine did get deflated when I moved it to another side of the tank. It was unhappy for about a week until I placed it back into its original spot. But since you haven't had any changes, I don't really have any suggestions other than monitor and see if it gets better.

No problem. Definetely one of the more fussy shrooms I have in tank without a doubt. Having said that and fwiw. MC is probably one of the very 1st shrooms i put in my system and has withstood alot of abuse. She will sprawl out and lay flat with extended frills once in her happy spot. Once you find that spot don't even look at her wierd lol or think about moving her and she should do great for you:)

I can relate to that, this was one of the first ones I put in my tank also. It’s been in this same spot and happy for a good 6-9+ months.. seems rather sudden. I’ve wondered if perhaps something was trying to eat it or something because it has gotten extra mucusy but I have been watching it like a hawk and haven’t seen anyone bothering it. Here is a better photo now that the lights are fully on (a lot of mucus on right and bottom side). Think it could be BJD?

I'd double check all major parameters and make sure your not missing something and nothing major is out of whack. If not I wouldnt sweat it. I've had mine go into fussy mode and stay like that for months until it settled back in. Basicly everytime I move it, after last 2 upgrades, any kind of lighting schedule change, different flow you name it. Stability is key for Magic Carpet shroom.
