Magic sponge and reef chemistry

Hello, a buddy of mine has an acrylic tank hazed with lanathium chloride precipitate. I am quite sure a test scrubbing of a small area with a mr.clean magic sponge might buff off this residue. However, I first need to find out if using such a sponge inside a reef tank would cause a problem for the inhabitants? I'm concerned it may release a chemical into the tank that can harm. Thanks

Scent free original Magic Erasers are reef safe IMO, and very handy at scrubbing coralline from acrylic tanks as well.
