Hello everyone,

I just picked up a male magma fairy wrasse at my LFS for $85. I'm hoping it was a good deal. I know they were going for a lot last year, but I can't seem to find any others for sale currently.

Anyway, he is in quarantine alone at the moment. He will be added to my 90 gallon in a few weeks where I have a male lineatus wrasse and a few other fish. I plan to put him in an acclimation box in the tank so the lineatus wrasse can get used to him. The magma wrasse is quite a bit smaller than the lineatus.

Any special care for the magma wrasse? They are so new that I can't find much about them online.

They are a middle of the road fairy wrasse as far as aggression, hardiness, ease of care.

Thanks! That is what I'm finding. He ate well this morning. It was his first meal in my care.

Seems like a good price. I'd like to add one, but unobtanium so far.

I'll say. I thought I saw one last year for about 500.00

I wouldn't be at all surprised. NYAquatic had one recently for $400 if memory serves. Novelty fish always command a high price - sometimes they prove to be not rare and the prices come down, other times not.

I thought it was a good price. They also had a pintail wrasse for $49!
Post a pic? C. Shutmani is the one I am thinking of as common names like Magma or Cherry wrasse seems to be thrown around alot.

I'll try to get a good pic when I'm home tonight. To me it appears to be a young male C. shutmani.

If so and not misidentified (not saying it is) that is a pretty sweet deal.

It is pretty small, but it does have the yellow near the base of the tail fin and the small dark spot in front of the dorsal fin that are characteristic of C. shutmani.

That’s a magma! Nice fish and great price! :)

$85???!?! Wow.

I paid twice that today with some hookups and thought it was a great deal... and I bought 2 to pair up (from different stores)!

But wow... now I don't feel so great! Lol

Where in CA are you?
