Hello! I just wanted to ask if anyone has any recommendations for dosing mag. For how much you need to dose a lot of the options I've found are pretty expensive and you need to use a TON of it when dosing, are there better options or is that just how it is for mag?

Magnesium salts have lower solubility than other things we dose, and usually we are making larger corrections on top of this, so it is often a higher volume dose than we are used to. No way around it really. BRS general magnesium adjust is my preference. It has a mixture of magnesium sulfate and magnesium chloride so you don’t spike sulfates with larger doses.

If you need to make a large correction, it takes a ton because the corrections are large.

How are you maintaining calcium and alk? That method can help determine the best way to dose magnesium.

I use the 2 part seachem reef fusion for cal/alk

I use same.
For MG I use Red Sea at a daily rate of 1/5th of CA dose.
I was using the Sea Chem MG supplement (Ions) but it just got to costly.
Where did you get "1/5" of Ca dose from? Is it from a chemical reaction equation?

It’s approximate. I need to dose 5mls per day MG to maintain 1350ppm. I need to dose 25ml per day CA to maintain 450ppm.

So in my case, MG is being dosed in an amount, 5 times less than CA.

Would depend on the mix, but won’t be that far out.
