Magnesium increasing without dosing or water change

have you every found why your magnesium is raising ?, I have the same problem , I can see it on my trident , everyday is going up about 20

I'm sitting with the same issue. Magnesium is creeping up with out being added. By the time it gets close to 1700, my corals look pretty mad.

Chiming in to follow this discussion. No issue yet really but noticed an increase. Could be related to the added salt as mentioned below but I would have imagined the disbursement of the added Mg from the salt would have already taken place.
2/5/20 - Mg 1350
2/6/20 - Mg 1300
2/11/20 - Mg 1365
On 2/5/20 I added 1/2 cup of IO reef crystals to reach my target of 1.025 SG. I figured I would see a change HIGHER but no. I tested each date twice with salifert (brand kits)

I expect those variations are either just noise in the testing, or salinity changes. There is no possibility that magnesium declined 50 ppm in one day except by salinity change or huge water change.

Honestly my only issue with all this is that when using BRS 2 part dosing method you are supposed to check the usage of magnesium or whatever element over a 5 day period for their calculator to tell you how much to dose of their packet mixes. Only issue is out of RS, Salifert and junk old API test kits I can't get one to give a reliable answer.

Actually, I designed the two part they use, and that is not my recommended method. Magnesium is best added in a fixed amount based on alk and calcium additions, not based on magnesium measurement..

Can you elaborate more? I am want to accurately calculate my usage from a high level to catch the curve before I am chasing it later.
