What should the mash level be in freshly mixed salt water.

It depends on your salt mix brand. They are not all the same

We see a rather large spike after partial wTer changes. It was 1200 a few hours after mixing Just wondering what it should be.

I have done a good bit of research today and feel I understand rodi a little better. I guess my real question is...... does a properly functioning rodi system remove all magnesium.

Good RODI water should come out at 0 tds. It will have very low levels of ions typically found in fresh water. But for all intents and purposes, one can figure it has close to 0 magnesium. Given that salt mixes have about 1300 - 1400 ppm of magnesium, any tiny amount of Mg in the RODI would be swamped out by the salt mix. Even if you were using tap water, it would not really have much effect.

Over the course of 5 200G boxes of regular IO I average these numbers:

Alk 9.9 - pretty much dead on this number every batch.
Cal 400
Mag 1250

Calibrated refractomter(35ppt solution) @ 1.026
78 F
All tests done with salifert.

regardless of what the water mixes up to, your target should be in in the 1350 ppm range. If it is too low you will find it pretty much impossible to keep your alkalinity in range. IME, too high (>1500ppm) is way less harmful than too low.
