Was using redsea, but all the reviews I could find show that it has very poor accuracy. It was running out, so I just bought a salifert and a triton test kit. Going to compare all three. Will report back when I get the triton results back in 10 days or so.

I also just purchases KNO3 and KH2PO4 to make Nitrate and Phosphate reference solutions. Anyone know if it's possible to make an Mg reference solution?

Red Sea on Amazon was about $30 for 100 test and $15 for refilling, seemed cheaper than other test in the long run. Do you think it is good enough? Or something to be avoided?

The Salifert mg test kit on amazon is under $15. Based on testing done by other members, I'd go with the salifert. The sample size of tests is small, but I remember the redsea test being significantly off/high in more than one controlled experiment. Do a search, I'm sure you can dig up some reviews.

Just got the salifert test kit in today :)

Magnesium is at 1230. Now off to find which additive to buy ;p

Both the Red Sea Pro, and Salifert are good kits, although the Red Sea can be a little more confusing at first. I would check your SG before deciding you have to dose anything. If your SG is on the low side all your other params will also be on the low side, i.e. Ca, Mg and Alk. What are you using to measure your SG? If a swing arm type of hydrometer, or a mis/non calibrated device, it may be giving you incorrect readings causing you to add too little/much salt mix to your make up water, and by extension too little/much Ca, Mg and Alk.

I never calibrated it. Only used it a couple times but it is giving me a reading of 1.025
