I have Hanna meters for all my other tests. This test works a little different so I understand why Hanna does not have a test kit for it. so....

What would you guys recommend? I won't be using it much until the reef is growing and I don't even have water in my tank yet but. testing or magnesium is on my list of things I would like to have. What test is accurate and provides good value / cost per test.

Honestly, I stopped testing anything except alkalinity myself and use a bimonthly ICP for the rest. The costs compare well when I counted how many tests I was buying (and wasting lots when they expire), and it saves a ton of time.

Otherwise, I believe I liked Salifert for it.

What do ICP tests cost / test?

I just looked It up.. $40-50 / test. So I would spend more on ICP testing that my Metal Halide electric bill.
I don't think that is realistic. It's a 150g system. If I was running a very large system or commercial growing setup I would defiantly do it. I don't want to spend $100/month on testing. I just want to get a feel for my update as I dial in dosing and other things.

I can see doing a ICP test once a quarter or when ever something is going wrong.

now it does!

Red Sea mag kit for me all other are Hanna. Very accurate compared to icp test.

I don’t mind the salifert, that’s what I currently use. I will be switching to the Hanna once it’s available.
