what depletes magnesium in a new tank really fast?

A bad test kit. It almost never drops fast even in a pretty stocked tank it really doesn't drop that fast. What kit are you using and how fast is it dropping

My tank not stocked at all really just some rock couple clown fish lawnmower Benny and brittle starfish and a coral bandit shrimp

I got local fish guy to test went from around 1200 to a 1000 in 4 days

That is never real, except by a massive water change.

Real magnesium depletion is more like 0.1 - 2 ppm per day.

Do a water change it will go back up. What's your salinity you keep your tank at. 1200 seems a little low

It is low I'm away from home right now when I get back a water change will be done

1.025 I believe is where it's at

It is a fine product, but a new tank doesn't have depleted magnesium, unless it is a poor salt mix.

If you are worried about it (I wouldn't be), get a good test kit yourself before dosing any magnesium.

I have test kits but the person at home don't know how to use them

I think you're worrying too much, mag tends to be much less important than say alk or calc.
