Magnesium

I don't believe it's vital to a reefs health. I add magnesium once per week to my system. I usually add 120ml in one dose and never had an issue. My range is usually 1200-1300 if that's considered stable?

In 6-7 months mine hasn't dipped below 1400ppm. Can't seem to lower it but it's not causing any visible issues.

Are you really asking about magnesium stability, or whether it is important?

Magnesium is inherently stable and almost nothing you can do aside from massive dosing or huge water changes could possibly make it unstable.

If it is depleting in your tank, it is very slow, like 1 ppm per day or less (often much less).

That said, it is important to make sure it doesn't drop much below natural levels of about 1280 ppm. The articles above describe why and how to dose. :)
