Magnets and Your Tank

Do you have any info on the types of chemicals released from neodymium magnets as they relate to reef chemistry/toxicity?

Here are the Triton reports following my issue with the ESHOPPS probe holder mentioned above.

Selenium, Lithium, and Aluminum were high.

It wiped out all coral over time.

Do you know of a good supplier for magnets? I find a lot on ebay from china, but I am always leary of them....any experience you can help with?
 
I've bought many magnets from China on eBay; they are very nice quality, great prices (no shipping cost), and can be VERY strong depending on the pull force. Shipping can take a while but well worth it for the quality and price imo (my last order took 2 weeks to deliver).

I use CMS magnets. Great prices and strong magnets in any shape you want. For small frags I use 30 Lbs and for larger I use 60 Lbs. Encased in acrylic epoxy.

Now I want to buy some, just to heat them up! (too expensive, but still...)

Do you know, do they return to magnetic when they cool, or is it a chemical change that is permanent?

They're stock, just look at the shape you want and the strength.

I heated a pair with a torch and they did not regain their pull force when cooled.
 
Love the pods you make too! I would like to make some. I think router table with a 1/4"or smaller bit, and not a hand router with such a small piece, right? What about material? 1/4" plexiglass with a 1/8" lid?

I use 1/2" and 1/16".
 
ESHOPPS probe holder cost me roughly $5k in coral and a restart on my entire reef. I can't hate a company more. I won't buy anything from them again! After all the reports, they still sell the same rack and ruin more tanks.

This probe holder was in the back of my sump, so I didn't notice it in time. Then I fought trying to remove the heavy metals for weeks before Triton tests confirmed it was a losing battle.

Selenium and Lithium were off the charts.

Is that a common issue with the Neptune holder? I've had one in the sump for about a yr.

I'm not sure I'd say it's common. but the way the big manufacturers seal their magnets isn't very efficient. they produce products in high volume and I think design and qc suffer because of that.
