Hi. I have a recently purchased mag which is starting to split and just wondering if anyone has info on the timescale for this?
I am new to r2r but have had reef tanks and nems for 30 odd years.
I normally have crispa or bubble tips and have only kept one mag back in the 90s before cipro etc and it didnt last long.
I saw this one and decided to move on some sps and make a home for it on the left side of my tank (100gallon) I was assured it had been quarantined for 6 weeks and had been shipped direct from Sri Lanka . It looked healthy and so it has gone straight in the display. ( I have cipro here and a quarantine tank ready)
There has been no deflation after 3 weeks. Mouth is tight. It feeds on small bits of squid or pellets. It sits in high flow on a pedestal under a black box led on pretty much max light.
It moves around sometimes but only in small area (2") or so.
I noticed a faint pale looking line along the side of the nem after a couple of days. Two days later I noticed a tiny split in the foot. 2 weeks later I see a divide between the tentacles at the top of the nem and the line is really obvious. It still eats and is looking absolutely healthy. I presume it was either already splitting before it arrived or is a stress related split from its upheaval from seller to me.
I am not concerned about the health of the nem but more interested in information regarding the estimated length of time it will take from this point to the point where i have two nems?
Any advice/input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tim (uk)
